Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition and with thanksgiving make you requests known to God; and the peace that surpasses all understanding, will guard you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7
What is "peace that surpasses all understanding"?
Have you ever experienced that kind of peace?
This kind of peace, ONLY comes from the Lord.
It is a peace that is present that cannot be accounted for by earthly evidence. It is a peace that is revealed in the contrast of a world screaming out in anguish versus a serene calmness, and inexpressible joy that fills every crevice of one's soul.
This kind of peace does not make sense to the world and cannot be found in the world.
People everywhere are searching for it.
I recently watched part of the movie, "Eat, Pray, Love." I say"part" of the movie, because it grieved me to see how the world is lost and looking for answers in the wrong places. It grieved my Spirit to see the worshiping of false gods in search of the One True God. (I don't recommend this movie.)
Some people may believe they can find God in false ceremonial religions, but they only find a fake substitution that cannot compare to the real relationship with the Lord Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY way.
Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, No man comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
Saying Jesus is the ONLY way is not very popular nowadays. However, I didn't say it, Jesus did.
Jesus is the Only way to true peace.
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
There is much in this world that might trouble your heart. There is much in this world that might cause you to fear.
Here is my paraphrase of what Jesus said....Do not let your heart be troubled, do not worry, do not fret, do not be afraid. I am with you, I'VE GOT THIS. Give it to me, trust me, and I will give you my peace that surpasses all understanding.
The beauty of a peace that surpasses all understanding is that we don't have to figure it out! That is the point after all. We have peace and we stand amazed by it.
I can recall circumstances where I should not have had peace. According to my flesh or the world, I should have been sad, scared, upset, mad, or full of turmoil. However, the peace of the Lord protected my mind, "guarded" my heart and mind and just allowed me to stay calm and full of joy.
I do have to say, however, that I do not do this correctly 100% of the time. There are times I mess up and don't give it to the Lord. There are times when I so get in my flesh and try to figure everything out. There are times when I just straight up miss it!
I am so thankful for His mercy! I am so thankful that His mercies are new every morning.
Just this last weekend, my heart was troubled, anxious. I cried out to Him, I asked Him to help me, to give me peace. It wasn't a long eloquent prayer...I didn't even have the energy for that. It was basically, just
Help me, Lord. Give me peace. Help me.
And He did. He is always faithful. He gave me peace that surpasses all understanding.
He will do the same for you. Go to Him, ask Him to help you with whatever it is you need...nothing is too big nor too small for our God. He wants you to have peace that surpasses all understanding.
He loves you more than you know.
